This piece is an installation-based presentation of my conceptual creation during my residency in Hainan.
The inspiration for this work comes from my two-week residency experience in Hainan: the sea, the islands within reach, coconut trees, sunsets, rain, and more, all served as sources of my creative inspiration. More specifically, elements like the wind blowing across the islands, the rippling waves from the rising and falling tides, the incessant rain throughout my stay, and the massive coconut leaves blown to the ground by the sea breeze—these impressions shaped my work. I continuously recorded all forms, colors, sounds—whether static or dynamic, highly saturated or muted—in my phone, camera, on paper, and in my mind.
The primary goal of this residency was to return to the essence of creation: to reflect on how I, as an artist, perceive the surrounding natural environment. I aimed to avoid all distractions and experience everything with a raw, unfiltered sense—truly seeing, hearing, and feeling—and then visualize these concepts through my work. This formed the main motivation behind the creation of this series.
This installation, along with other small installations, colored pencil sketches, and land art, comprises the body of work I produced during my residency in Hainan. Additionally, I faithfully documented my creative process and daily life during the residency, resulting in a series of narrative Vlogs.
